Loft living, London-style
Loft-style living inspires large windows, tall ceilings and lots of natural light
101 on Cleveland is influenced by New York loft living. Certainly, the fluted glass, polished stone, textured wood, and windows that stretch from floor to ceiling feel more Fifth Avenue than Fitzrovia. Yet these are the beautiful, industrial style features we had to inspire us.
The great thing about lofts is that they’re a blank canvas for artistic expression. Keep the base palette neutral, and you can add bold patterns, colourful art and strongly contoured furniture to maximum effect.
Against the grain
A rough-hewn console table in the entrance hall – which resembles a geometric landscape or origami finger puzzle – sets the tone for the other textural elements in the apartment.

What a contrast
Whites, greys and blacks are popular choices for the loft style – and here, an imposing obsidian-green abstract presides over a matte carbon wood sideboard, black and white sculptures, and a white-plaster floor lamp shaped like a large chess piece.
These stark, binary shades heighten the warmer pieces in the room: the scalloped stools in sage green velvet, and the vintage Astro coffee table with its swooping curves and arrowhead feet, like a toffee-coloured Maltese cross.

Magic mushroom
A plump, mushroom-velvet sofa is cinched at the sides to create a voluptuous silhouette. The warmth of the mushroom is enriched by the caramel-striped Berber rug and hazel-nut coffee table. For added comfort, we’ve piled on blue shearling, carmine-velvet, and fringed cushions.

Ahead of the curve
Arcs, ovals and concentric circles are some of the dominant shapes in the dining area. The elegant brass pendant light hangs over the white marble table like a minimalist rainbow with two diamond-shaped pots of gold at either end.
The colourful wall art includes works by celebrated artists Henrietta Dubrey, Tess Jaray and Stella Maris.

Bring out the fine china
Teak stools with woven-leather backs and seats add a honeyed warmth and softness to the fluted glass and graphite greys of the kitchen.
The handmade pendant lights – with their quilted bone china shades – lend the space a pleasingly kitsch character.

Colour me happy
Burnt orange and green-fringed cushions, tangerine-orange throw, and colour-soaked artwork by UIas & Merve pop against pale grey walls and ivory chenille headboard.

Woolly thinking
Textures play their part in the guest bedroom – from the nubbly, looped yarn of the wool bouclé headboard to the teal felt and jute-striped cushions.
Pattern also features throughout, whether it be the grain of the walnut bedsides, the geometric throw inspired by Appalachian coverlets, the colourful abstracts by Cornish modernist Karen Wade, or the Ikat shapes in the curtain fabric.
