Nine Elms

London’s first Park Hyatt-branded residences

Five-star riverside luxury in Nine Elms, London

The arrival of Park Hyatt London River Thames Residences marks another exciting chapter in the Nine Elms story. Here, two new icons perch on a bend in the river, where the Capital reveals itself in the most spectacular way. And if you ever tire of playing Spot The Famous Landmark, you can always immerse yourself in a cosmos of five-star amenities and services.

So, of course, when we were asked to design three show apartments on the 29th floor, we said yes, yes, and yes. Each one captures a different facet of the Park Hyatt experience – its architecture, ambience and setting. The views of the financial district inspired a sleek, tailored aesthetic. The landscaped greenery of Nine Elms Park sparked ideas for organic shapes and tactile surfaces. And the area itself – on the eastern edge of a thriving regeneration zone – prompted us to create a little East Asian-inspired tranquillity in the heart of SW8. While each space is unique, they feel cohesive, united by creativity and craftsmanship.

A fourth apartment is on the way – a sub-penthouse with a rooftop terrace on the 31st floor – so watch this space.

Natural selection

We’ve curated pieces that evoke the natural world: a sofa inspired by coastal rocks weathered by the elements; a rug woven from wool, jute and bamboo silk that resembles a vibrant terrain; a table of green marble; a leather-and-walnut sideboard; and chairs crafted from rush rattan and linen. These materials – cool, warm, soft, hard, smooth and textured – bring a tactile, nature-connected quality to life high above the city’s thrum.

Change of scene

Inspired by Park Hyatt Hangzhou’s murals, we framed botanical wallpaper within contemporary panelling. The aged finish makes it look time-worn and patinaed, like an 18th century wall hanging. The depth and detail sit beautifully alongside layers of textured cushions, carta-clad bedsides, and handmade table lamps shaped like ornamental cabbages.

All that shimmers

There’s a sultry, burnished luminosity to the guest bedroom. With gold cushions, an iridescent headboard of silvery squiggles, brushed fringes, twirly lampshades, and a delicious palette of caramel, honey and chocolate – there’s plenty to seduce the senses.

Throw shade

A nod to East Asian simplicity infuses the living room with soft neutrals and elegant silhouettes. A highlight: the floor lamp, whose shade echoes a traditional Jingasa samurai hat. Its tilted angle evokes the posture of a bowing head atop an undulating stem – curiously anthropomorphic and perfectly in tune with the room’s gentle shapes.

Short and sweet

Our dark-stained coffee table draws inspiration from the short-legged Chabudai used in traditional Japanese homes. It’s a simple, sinuous piece that offsets the structured, labyrinthine pattern on the rug.

In first place

The podium-style design of our bespoke headboard integrates space-saving recesses, built-in reading lights, and a handy wooden shelf for your morning tea. Upholstered in a lightly ribbed fabric inspired by tatami – a traditional Japanese straw mat – it combines comfort with heritage.

Red alert

Mineral-rich burgundy walls and a large-scale, luxuriously textured wallpaper – reminiscent of Piet Mondrian’s compositions – fill the entrance with warmth and drama.

Glad for plaid

Designed in-house and made by local artisans, this soft leather headboard is stitched in a plaid-like pattern. The precision hints at bespoke tailoring, while the deep red finish suggests the cocooning comfort of a private members’ club.

Nerves of steel

A central steel plate pierces two steel legs like a spear, forming a sleek tusk and tenon joint. It’s a scrupulously rigorous construction, engineered and hand-crafted by London-based metalworkers.

By contrast, we designed the bench seat to be rounded and cushioned. The pale wood and mustard-yellow cotton velvet add softness, balancing the sharp, polygonal geometry of the table.

Mellow yellow

Pale yellow hues create a calm, uplifting space – perfect for delicate design details like the handcrafted woven-cane headboard. The bedsides feature book-matched timber grain, forming a pattern of concentric diamonds. Simple, subtle and satisfyingly soothing.
